the points and the statistics mean NOTHING so maybe everyone should think about that
Ok, but, I don't agree. Yes, points and stats DO mean something to me, but, that doesn't make me wrong. That is NOT the issue though. I enjoy very much planning for, setting up, manuevering, out strategizing an opponent, only to have them quit after a few moves. THAT destroys MY enjoyment, maybe it doesn't yours, but, it is worse than almost death to me. Why START a game if you are only going to play a turn or two! In face to face scenarios of the old days, if we played 3 turns, you quit, I would leave, never playing you again as I just wasted my time!
Sure, I may be in a better position in some cases when the opponent surrenders. But, you said HOPELESS. NONE of the surrenders I am talking about are hopeless positions, or even close to hopeless. None. I am talking about the hundred or two that were far from hopeless.
So, yes, perhaps points and stats mean nothing to you. That's ok, to each his or her own. For me, it's more about the fight than anything else. And my enjoyment is totally and completely obliterated when someone quits on the second move, or fifth move.
So, there are different types of surrenders, and, these are the ones I at least am talking about.
To restate and agree with you....
You said too many forget about the fun. Consider, that the fun is removed for me (and I would suspect you as well), when you joins games only to have people quit. AND, not get rewarded for that, only punished. It's really great when you join a multi player game only to have your teammates surrender. What enjoyment is there in that? Before a shot is even fired. So, sure, too many forget about the fun for OTHERS as well as themselves. |
