We're lucky to have 8 complete teams, and truly skilled teams are at a premium (no offense to the underdogs). I will say, IMHO, the tourney has actually gone amazingly well, credit to those running it. I am surprised we have not had a forfeit or anything like that. That's a LOT of players. And it's summer. To add to Pbass comments - PLAYERS also have a role here. If a team captain is not aware you the player is going on a trip or something, then, you put them in a very bad position. Keep them up to date. If you are not going to be able to play any more for some reason, be honest, don't just go away.
Most of the comments are actually favorable, and Steve I'm glad you quoted Andy. That, Andy is EXACTLY the point. It IS voluntary. But while too many rules and restrictions may drive players away, too few make for situations as currently exist. Too slow of play should also not be endured by us VOLUNTEERS.
The issue currently involving one of the players is becoming egregious, as since the 6 days since posting, I personally saw this player online on Saturday. These were not robotic moves, as the 24-hour move rate was 96. So here's a player actively playing, and not signing up for his tournament games.... how would you respond? I think our response has been rather subdued, myself, considering the circumstances.
So, ask yourself, where would YOUR justice lie?
The notice has been sent to the Captains this morning. The second game of Round 3 is being posted this afternoon, according to Mark. Of course we don't expect you to tell us your Summer plans in April--quit being fatuous. But in this case he is trying to keep the pace of games continuous because of events that are currently ongoing. So, guys, you've got 7 days to get your teams going. (actually, I don't think they actually disappear until it hits the 8th day...observations, anyone?)
Our Team currently has no tournament games on our plate. Perhaps we should post all 8 games of a Round at once, and then the final Round (4th) at the completion of the 3rd. What do you guys think? I would suggest sending your thoughts to Mark and myself. This would give each of us plenty of games to mess with, and give Mark plenty of time to forewarn us of their posting.
And I would like to repeat my warning that the Replacement Pool is pretty much exhausted. I checked with some of the players last week, and several are no longer interested at this stage of the TCC. I can only furnish one reliable name currently available as a substitute. His record is better than some players (50%), and he is reliable. Otherwise I can only make suggestions. As the games have continued, the teams with lesser records may find it difficult to convince a quality player to join their cause. Try to use your own resources if this becomes a problem.
