There would be no justice in doing so this game, as the affected team would be OUR opponents. But, beginning with the next game posting, any team either not completely signing up by a certain number of days, or locating a substitute (permanent or temporary), will FORFEIT that set of games. The only exemption will be if prior notice is received by the offending team Captain, and would entail family emergencies or planned vacations. The operative word here is "prior". Once the game is posted, the countdown begins.
We have been playing for several months now, and everybody knows the drill. This has been happening far too frequently in the past, and will stop IMMEDIATELY, commencing the next set of games.
You will be notified officiall via email, and Captains will be responsible for the timely sign-up of their members, or locate a substitute.
So, what's the big secret? How many days, give us the rules. You can't say once posted, that presumes we have advance notice of the posting as well so we can do the notify. Why pick on signups? What about moves during the game? A signup is a one time event, what about players that take 4 days for every move? Isn't that worse? It's summer guys, some of us actually take time off.

Exactly. If that's the case, why does it take until now to let us know? The TCC started in April.
Vacations are not a problem, if we're notified before the game starts... you guys need to understand that there is a difference between re-starting a timed out official game, and a game after it's started. Mark set these for a 5-day turn time-out. Fine---if a guy doesn't want to make a move he turns auto. That will piss his own team off. But resetting a game that should never have timed out in the first place is just another piece of crap that Mark should not have to do. And, he emailed a list of start dates that, because of late signups, is already invalid. Why? Well, our team still waiting for the FIRST one to start. How can anyone expect Mark to set advance schedules when he's already done so, and been ignored.
That assumption, that we aren't notified soon enough, is pure, unadultered bullshit!
You guys are always notified in plenty of time to alert us to any upcoming events, or possible hold-ups. And of course emergencies take precedence over a game. But whining that you weren't furnished with plenty of time to notify us (like Derek just did, and Hans did in the forum, announcing their scheduled vacations) is just dodging the problem of delayed and delaying games. And if you, as Captain, has a game that takes forever because of one of your players, then that makes you ultimately responsible. Playing with a robotic player is most definitely not helpful to your team. Serves you right. How do you fire a robot already signed up and playing?
Regarding replacements, a good Captain should be aware of who else may be out there simply through their own playing history. You don't have to leave it to us---find a decent player from your playing history and let him know you need his, or her, help. Our ability to assist in this department is now very limited.
This results in no real 'list' of replacements as such that I can send any longer, as they have for the most been depleted. There's only 2-3 currently. If your wish to replace a player is genuine, please let us know, with the details of your requirements, and who it is that you're replacing. The reasons are irrelevant. As Captain, you assume the responsibility for your crew's actions. Don't wait until the last minute to make your decisions!
A copy of my previous text was sent to Mark, who has still not gotten his computer problems settled. Together we will have complete details forwarded to the Team Captains, and probably on the forum as well.
Just remember please, if you will, that we are trying to improve the ability of the Competition to be more efficient. The issues addressed deal with this, and at the same time identifies the sources of the problems previously experienced. This is not necessarily by individual players, but by a lack of guidelines to force Teams (and their Captains) to take more seriously their responsibilities within the group. This should speed up play, and eliminate the ability of one or two individuals to inconvenience the rest of us.
