That was very interesting to read. Thanks for that post.
And thanks for Chiggy to bring that up.

Yes, in the end, it is not accurate of course. But, it IS a game, and, the game itself is modeled after the board game. I would like it to stay that way. But, clearly, not accurate. As many others have pointed out, nor is most any game. Chess, etc.

Certainly, a valid point. But, I like it that way as the only reason I started here was I noticed the name, and, I had played the game before. The game is fun as is, yes, the tactics are not the same as historical tactics. But they never are. Do not underestimate the complexity of designing a more historically accurate ruleset. Since that ruleset already exists (but is not accurate), it's much easier to use as is.

Note that I did not make any request or suggestion that WSIM be changed here. I was simply responding to and expanding upon ChiggyVonR's questions and comments regarding rakes in WSIM on this site.

I would, however, disagree that historical games are "clearly, not accurate ... nor is most any game." While all historical games are simulations of reality, there are those which do a much, much better job of simulating historical events and allow for the effective use of historical tactics. Heart of Oak and Fire As She Bears come quickly to mind with regard to age of sail games.

To ChiggyVonR I would say further; Your questions are an attempt to apply historical reality to a game system which has about as much of a relation to the age of sail as The Big Planes Race (elsewhere on this site) has to World War I air combat.
