I'm not up to speed on all the previous posts or work, but is there (very briefly) a reason we can't keep this site? It does work so beautifully thanks to everyone's work over the years...
Hi, not quite sure what you mean by the representation. Did you mean the chits that were pulled?
As for as why... Think of this like my 1978 Yamaha 650 Special that I sold last year. I hated to let it go, but it was proving difficult to maintain, and whenever I went for a ride on it, lets just say my bum wasn't happy. Compare that to my 2023 Indian and there really isn't any doubt which is superior.
It's just me doing all this, and maintaining two sites just isn't in the cards. I don't plan to ever charge and I do it so I can play these cool games with others. When I heard the site was going to shut down back in 2018 or so, I picked it up. But the code was out of date even then. So early this year I sat down and did a full evaluation of the code. What I found, although not surprising, wasn't too encouraging. I then spent the next two months just modernizing the current code base so that it couldn't be casually hacked. I considered how to possibly take this old code and add things like Altitude to Blue Max. It wasn't worth the effort (again it's just me). So I decided to move to an entirely new code base and start from scratch.
I definitely went overboard with 3D on Cartagena, but it was the test case for everything else. So, at players requests, and my own preference, I created a "Classic" board that trys to mimic this legacy version as close as possible. (still open to suggestions on that.) Sometimes a simple board game is just that. I think BlueMax (without Altitude) deserves the same treatment.
As I posted elsewhere in this same thread, I'm not at all happy with the current user interface. It needs a lot more tuning and I'll get there. I hope you can hang in there for the interim. Most of my time thus far has been ensure the games mechanics and rules are correct.
A big challenge is mobile and trying to keep it similar to desktop. The move card is awkward and It's not very intuitive. Viewing whats going on at a glance just isn't quite there.
It needs work, but it does work. All constructive suggestions are welcome! Please post them in the new forum so I can track them. Whenever you see me post "Noted." that means it's been automatically sent to a review list where I can investigate and prioritize.
Bottom line on why this needs to go away, I can't support two sites and this one has some serious technical issues. I don't want to lose any players, and I hope you consider this your site.
Would love everyone's help on getting this right. Please try to post suggestions in the new forums.
Thanks!
