Message text While looking at the best way to control wind speed I came across the drifting code, which doesn't look at anchoring. So then, in order to implement correctly, I re-read all the rules I could find about anchoring, drift, etc.
Anchoring was a later add-on that just didn't clarify anything about drift. Then I read all the scenarios. Almost none of them allow anchoring. Only when land is in sight was anchoring allowed.
I guess the bigger question is, should we remove it altogether for now or always allow it? 90% of the scenarios were in deep water with no chance for anchors.
I'm pretty sure I can tweak anchoring so that drift never occurs, and also figure out whats happening with melees, but should we even allow it in the first place?
I like it from time to time, especially when I have a dismasted ship that has a hdt of -1. I can't bring it into range, but by anchoring I can at least start firing.
