I like the Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack - it really adds depth to a rather average plot. It does convey the since of WWI more so than Aces did for me. Its also hard for me to associated Malcom apart from A Clockwork Orange - but this is a minor quibble. Do you own the movie Lord?

Funny, people are going to think we are still having a raging debate about honor !

I do indeed - I have both Blue Max and Aces High

You're right in that Aces High doesn't have a strong plot in some ways, although I suppose it's really following the life expectancy of Croft. The Blue Max is a fine film, but there are just some aspects of it which are too Hollywoodish, particularly the scenes with Ursula Andress. I just don't really find it as atmospheric - although one of my favourite clips is the scene of the German ground offensive, which is quite fantastic.

I'd truly love to see someone like Ridley Scott make a completely serious 3 hour epic. It would be truly amazing. There's so much scope because it's a topic that I don't think cinema has ever tackled properly.

I noted that the rights to make some Biggles TV movies were bought a few years ago, but the whole thing fell through which is a great shame (even though it might have been inter-war they were thinking of). Biggles would provide a good scope to make a ww1 TV mini-series a bit like 'Sharpe', that could be entertaining and interesting to non-ww1 buffs.

Good points one and all - I liked Sharp but in a similar way to Aces High, I didn't get the feel of Napoleonic warfare. It was very squad level or so it felt. I know we are following his escapades but I expect a good many men on the field depicting a Napoleonic battle. I felt the same way about Gettysburg - Picket's charge being made by what appeared to be 200 men when it was around 12,000. Have you ever seen some movie called Red Baron or Flying Circus - something like that?
