I know the current code implements the written rules but it seems many players agree that:
1) Wind changes too often. 2) The direction is too random.
Proposed:
1) Only check for a wind change once every 4 turns.
2) Only allow the wind to change direction by 1 compass point in either direction. (If it's heading N, then it can only change to NE or NW. If it's heading N it's not allowed to completely reverse direction and change to S or SE or SW on that turn.) Only six compass points on a hex map. I think you get the idea.
Thoughts for or against? Is this hard to code?
GOOD IDEA Ive been thinking about this too. Although my solution more complex. I like the wind changes as it can turn a game, and can make it worth playing on even if you look beaten. I agree that it can be very sudden and erratic. I would rather that you keep the change in strength and direction as is. but have some kind of weather forecasting box. Rather than totally random, you could have a notification: EG "There is 20% chance of the wind getting stronger this turn. There is 75% of the wind backing" You could at least use this knowledge so you are not so screwed buy an totally out of the blue change.
I think it will make the game much more enjoyable. |
