When you and Nick decide to move, maybe the new rules should be called Simplified (2nd edition) and Basic (2nd edition) so the casual players over in the main site knows which is which since some of the 1st edition games will remain alive (I assume) until they are done.
At this moment, there is no mechanism for that, once changes are moved to main site, all ongoing games will immediately apply new rules. The only "transition code" included is that ships which surrendered by firepower according to the old rules, will still be considered surrendered once new rules are applied (but they will now be able to "unsurrender" obviously ). Some weeks ago, when we were thinking about moving things directly without beta, Nick told me he wanted to make a special system so that ongoing leagues would keep the old scoring and only new leagues would use the new system. However, given the amount of changes done, which affect even simplified rules, I think that leagues will be so much affected that we may as well directly apply the new league scoring system to ongoing leagues too (thus saving the time to make the special system and making the move earlier).
Thanks for rising this issue - unfortunately at a first guess I'd say that making a mechanism to apply rules only to new games isn't much convenient so we may have to "disrupt" ongoing games. |
