just take note of ALL the dice you throw (say about 500 data points should be enough), place them in an excel spreadsheet, and I'll run a test
For sure 500 dice throws will be level and give an average of 3.000001098. But in these games we are not talking about 500 dice throws. One game doesn't even have that much.
We talk about a specific ship and a limited but fairly important series of dice throws : 6 or 7, which makes the difference in winning or losing a battle.
In the case I had it, in fact one of my ships threw above average and the other only below average (the series of 1,2 's). So averaged on me as a player it would perhaps be slightly less than 3.0. BUT somehow the lower dices ALWAYS came with one specific ship, and that ship battled with the opponent's ship that ALWAYS threw high numbers (as in 10 consecutive dice throws)
And that is the problem!
As it happens my "ordinary" dice throwing ship was too far away or too low on guns to win his battle with his opponent ship, and my stronger ship that SHOULD have oblitirated his opponents ship couldn't do it because of these illfated dice throws. Especially when damage points would work only with throwing above 3.. Therefore tilted the balance "unexpectedly" in favour of my opponent.
But in another occasion in Bluemax I had the same but on the receiving end.
Anyways, I think it is not so difficult to put such a dice modifier on these games. And it does make things more fair play. Wouldn't you agree?
