Sometimes (also in BlueMax) I find that one side or one ship in particular throws the dice too favourable to be ignored.
I don't know how this is possible (software's randomizer SHOULD be indifferent)
It's just because it's random if all planes always got similar numbers it would be much more puzzling!!!
but maybe the programmers must put a limiter on the dice results once a certain ship or plane throws too many 5's and 6's in a row
I once devised a variant of blue max with deterministic damage. Damage was distributed among tail/wings/fuselage/engine depending on the side from which you were hit. As a default you did not get any criticals, but could trade in some damage for criticals. e.g. you could reduce the damage on your wings by 3hits by taking the "no restricted manoeuvres" critical.
I played it once with the Feuerkuegel (before the Feuerkuegel even existed as such )... and we decided that it was quite boring!
In my opinion the luck factor makes this game more interesting /exciting
