When we were playing Blue Max with 1/72 scale airplanes, we had them on hex shaped bases attached to car antenna. I used 3 different colors of spray paint, black, brown, and tan, on a green felt mat. I moved the hex across the edge of the mat and gave it a short spray along the inboard side. Then I moved the hex, gave it a spray with another color, and moved it along. It went quickly. The spacing of hexes worked out perfectly. It looked very good with the mottled colors.
