Ancient sailors and especially fleet captains of those days can probably tell bad weathers are coming just as good as modern weather forecast. I was born and spent 15 yrs growing up in the sub-tropic port city better known as Hong Kong. There are obvious signs before the coming of tropical storms, especially those that made direct (or almost) hits.
