hans has no crew and yet he is still able to pull away from my ship going full speed!

also the last crew marker is still there. does this mean that he hasnt enough crew to fire but can still sail?

if this is so at what point does the game end? does it stop when the boats are at a set distance from one another?

btw enjoying playingthe game but am confused as to when firing takes place - after all movemant?

Firing is after all movement.He did not lose all his crew. That message is bugged and it appears when he he still has one crew. You need to inflict one more crew damage to kill him.
Otherwise, you could end the scenario by destroying all his hull, or all his riggings, or all his guns
