if a ship has sunk, that region becomes impassible and you get fouled in that ship all the time...

thus with a battle with a few ships that are clustered together, you cannot move out of it again...

Yep so you need to plan for dead ships and how to get out of the pack!

in this case it was impossible...

2 ships sailing side by side at 2 ships sunk in front of them... neither could turn (or he`d be raked) so we crashed into ships in front... then my ship sank his... and got stuck in the end...

i`d say sunk ships should clear the board in 2 turns or so... especially ships that got sunk by hull damage...imagine battle of trafalgar where a few ships are sunk... it would stall the entire game...

i can`t remember that in the original game the hulls would stay put.

The issue of ships sinking, or even exploding, is fully covered in the original game. Unfortunately, they are in the Advanced Rules section, VIII COMBAT PHASE, C., Sink and Explode.

Covered by this are ships that completely lose all hull squares. The action requires using the Destroyed Hull Table. Neither is determined until subseqhent turns.

Any immobilized vessels are subject to the drifting rules, unless anchored, which is another Advanced rule. The size of the ship determines is rate of drift. It has been that way since the dawn of time.

Even if not dismasted, ships must drift if they have not changed the position of the bow, including pivoting.
