imagine battle of trafalgar where a few ships are sunk... it would stall the entire game...
i can`t remember that in the original game the hulls would stay put.
Here, a "struck" ship (although sometimes referred to as "sunk," it is not) is one which has lost its hull boxes and surrenders by striking (do not confuse this with a ship which surrenders by player choice). It ceases to move or fire. It can no longer be targeted, and does not block the line of fire. However, it remains an obstacle to movement and may foul other vessels. Finding a historical situation where such a thing would exist is … somewhat difficult. Struck ships could be significant obstacles in a real battle as they would not fire, would drift, would block the line of fire, could foul another vessel, and would be unlikely to sink until after a battle (if at all). Of course, a struck ship would also take up, proportionally, a lot less room than it does in WSIM.
The way struck ships function in the game is simply a poor game mechanic. It isn't historical. It isn't logical. But it is a rule. We all simply have to learn to allow for it. |
