We played that all previous moves this turn, including pivots, counted. If you turned to a more restrictive wind attitude, you were basically hosed. There was none of this zig zagging stuff.
Oh well. LOL. If only we had known.
You'd be surprised at how many experienced players on this site have made similar mistakes and misinterpretations, including myself, so don't feel bad. Live and learn.
I claim ignorance status as well when first starting on this site, and I've been at it over 30 years. Didn't believe it until I contacted the original Battleline WS&IM designer, and asked him about the correct rules' definition. He said yep, that's the way it works. You are correct, though, in assessing the way the rule reads. It could have been worded better.
Another obscure rule, brought to my attention by sfatula, is that a ship striking by losing all of its guns can still be fired at. If subsequently destroyed by losing all hull squares, she strikes again, awarding double points to the victor.
There's a few secret weapons and tricks you'll learn as you go along. The big thing in winning is not in necessarily moving your ship, as in anticipating the movement of your opponent. What is HE/SHE anticipating or capable of doing? Try not to be forced into reacting to their moves, as much as in trying to react to yours. In this game, even loaded dice can roll a "0". |
