To expand on that a little, you have to be real careful with scoring in league games. For example, you could sink two SOLs, but if your opponent sinks two of your frigates, that's considered a draw in the league even though you have a lot more points. It still counts as a victory for your personal stats, but in the league it's a draw.
Normally, it's easy to calculate (and forget), but it's especially tricky in the Britannia at Gibraltar and Lake Erie scenarios where the two sides start with a different number of ships. For instance, in the Gibraltar scenario, if you're the English and both sides have lost two ships, the French player will win the league points because they lost a lower percentage of ships regardless of which ships were actually lost.
I guess it works for Blue Max, but isn't so good for WSIM, where the ship values can be vastly different. Killing Amphion is hardly equivalent to killing Britannia and should not be rewarded as such.
That said, it DOES produce some entertaining desperation moves as players (myself included) try to kill that one extra ship that will produce a win, or escape when it's not really feasible. |
