Not just generals, there will be a few Commander in Chiefs as well.


I think the number of kills is a red herring as some people take 1000 games to get 100 kills, whilst others take 200 games.

To get a rank it should be based on your success rate.

Divide the number of games by the number of kills. This gives a score that when multiplied by 100 gives an easier one to categorise (mine is about 31.82 at the moment) and ranks should be given based upon that score.

If you suddenly hit a bad spell and your rate reduces, then you are downgraded. That way everyone will not end up as Air Chief Marshalls.

Bad players will remain as Flight Sergeants and the better players improve over time.

We talked about the rank thing before. The youplay has been around long enough that the ranking could be done specifically with the present players in mind. New players could then attempt to match what has come before. I think that if a rank designation is assingned, it should include the following.

Time in grade, months of playing BM at a specific rank. (if you play 2000 games in the first year with a high success rate, you still don't get to be a General)

Games won multiplied by number of players in the game divided by number of games played. (you should be a game winner to advance in rank quickly)

(Kills/deaths) I had a complicated formula for this to account for number of players faced, but the real world results nullify the necessity.

So, it would go something like this:

Start as Lieutenant

Captain requires at least 30 days since start of first BM game and 30 games played. Captain is automatic with 90 days since first BM game and at least 30 games finished.

Major requires 180 days since Captain was attained and 90 games played. Major is automatic with 365 days since attaining Captain and 90 games finished.

Lieutenant-Colonel as above and 150 games played.

Colonel as above and 250 games played.

Brigadier-General requires 180 days as a Colonel, 500 games played and merit.

Major-General requires 360 days as a Brigadier-General, 1000 games played and merit.

Lieutenant-General (The highest British air force rank I found) 365 days as a Major-General and is one of the 5 top players as ranked by merit factors added together.

Merit will allow you to advance when you have minimum time and games in grade.

Merit equals games won multiplied by number of players divided by number of games played of at least 1.2, or a kill/death ratio 2 or better.

Since this is unlikely to be implemented anytime soon, we can avoid getting too worked up about the details
