Tyree, you make a good point with regard to the automvers. I am not sure if the stats indicate whether a player tends towards automoving or not. I would certainly support any effort that can be made to remove automovers from a game.
For my own part, I don't consult the stat page to check on how good or bad a pilot is before I decide to join a game. I have had my share of unpleasant surprises at the hands of new players as well as my share of pleasant surprises when facing veteran players. I have NO idea how the statistics bear up in these particular instances. I have my own list of who I consider to be capable opponents and once again, I don't have any idea of how they measure up on the stat page.
DeBurke, my understanding of the game is that we are trying to recreate WWI air combat, not statistical analysis. If that is your interest then I stand by my suggestion that perhaps you pursue a career in that field. I don't consider myself to be a particularly weak pilot, nor do I feel as though I have been discriminated against by anyone. I have been playing Blue Max on the game table since it was introduced back in the early 80s, so I think I have a pretty good idea of what the game is trying to portray. I also have a pretty good idea of what is real and what is it not and I don't need you to remind me that we are not REALLY flying Fokkers and Camels and shooting each other down in burning wrecks.
Sorry Steve, my "accusations" about you were obviously silly. There was no need to defend yourself from them. I was just responding to the statistical analysis. If that is your interest then I stand by my suggestion that perhaps you pursue a career in that field. type comments. They are silly. Silly for silly. tyree answered well. I answered like a jerk.
I love the stats pages, and like you, have never consulted them as a prelude to joining a game. If someones goal was to use the stats to make sure they only joined games for the advantage of flying with proven pilots, that would be a bit lame. It would seem to be a great advantage towards being on the winning side, but quite a disadvantage towards actually winning a game.
The comment about getting to know our fellow pilots in the sky has come up a number of times in the forums. 1000 rotating pilots for players with 32 or less games in play, seems quite a lot to keep track of. As an example, my personal feeling about you, whether we have actually flown together or not, is limited to the recent Flame Wars with the delinquents, and the recent anti-stats user and anti-AD&D comments. Checking the stats I could get a better feel for what kind of player you are. Not concrete of course, as the stats can be manipulated. I also would not judge you merely on my distaste for your intolerance for how/what others like to play. You are obviously a bright and reasoned person. I believe that someday you will have no problem with AD&D or stats users. |
