I strongly disagree about the 200 game suggestion, the problem, IMSHO, is newbies who are on the site less then a month and have 200+ open games. Limit newbies to # of active games, and no league till x days of membership / continuous play. THAT will make the league automove problem mostly go away.
Maybe Nick, or someone else can answer but I suspect there is a break point / average number of days where a newbie either stops signing on, or needs to be a member of BMA "Blue Max Anonymous" I am thinking a month / 30 days. limit that and you mostly limit the newbie, too many games / to many leagues abandonment problem
At the old job I easily kept 200+ open games and would have had more but other people seem to be asleep at 3am. Not that I can do it these days but I think it is the wrong limit for the problem.

PS, the quit option is a good idea except that I would be willing to bet most newbies quit when the game isn't fast enough and or the sudden influx of games is to tiresome. They are more likely too quit and never return then click an I quit button, suspect its more work for our Webgods then it would provide results.
Newbies or not, having a large number of active games become a management issue of sort. If you are online all day and manage at least 1 or 2 moves per day on each of the games waiting for you; then that is fine with most of us. I am sure we have seen veteran players who have hundred of games but only log on once a day for less than 1 hour; hence they cannot even move all the games waiting for them to move. That is a problem and a maximum number of games limit will help. |
