I noticed early on that if one side sank all of his opponents ships, then he was awarded the win regardless of points. Personally, I prefer it that way, although I also see the need to determine a winner absent the total destruction of one of the fleets.
That being said, I'm not sure the point distribution is balanced in some of the scenarios - the pirate scenarios being the main example. I've played as the pirates quite a bit. While I do well as a pirate if one measures it by who is left standing at the end, it is very difficult for the pirates to win if you go by points.
In the big scheme of things, it is just a game, so I don't fret about it too much. I'm not after any kind of ranking by wins or points. In fact, I occasionally offer a draw to a losing opponent if he is new to game or has fought a good battle. I used to play WS&IM as a board game, and I love this online version. I just can't wait for the programmers to add some of the more advanced features. |
