Message text I still don't know the rules enough, but imho I already noticed a strange effect:
A SOL is near immune to guns and crew hits !
Near every SOL have more than 13+ guns broadsides , sometimes 20+ ... and so many sailors onboard that every (every!) "gun hit" or "crew hit" is absolutely meaningless .
There are so many guns onboard that even one turn before to sink under a concentrated hailstorm of cannoballs, the SOL still have enought firepower to shoot at it's best , wasting any strategy about enemy's ship suffered broadside damage.
The same for the crews, I seen so many SOL (SOL, not "little" ships) sinked... and no one (no one!) ever suffered a single "crew section loss"... this is bad
If a funcion is never activated... it'wasted.
Moreover...
I don't know if the SOL in our scenario are a bunch of "Yamato-like" ships, but I noticed that the sheer firepower of a 13+ broadside ship is enough to turn any attempt to close the distance or to flee away (suffering a rake) into a sure suicide. The battles are resolved by rakes only, you can stay many turns near a SOL broadside suffering minimum damage just to be vanquished in one broadside if you attempt to close to the enemy.
Judging from my little combat experience, (and rules ignorance ) ... ...maybe that, really, there are too many guns and crew boxes in our ships !
Bye!
