In turn 10 San Leandro fired both broadsides. You must've loaded the port guns for turn 11 & 12 and the starboard gun for turn 13 (the one in question) leaving the needed port guns empty. I have to assume that you have your 'load' setting on the default, or random setting. When firing both broadsides, you may change this setting to direct which side gets the ammo. Ok, that's the answer to 17361. Drathul must not have named a broadside to load. The ship status shows it empty. I should have spotted it. That's not the situation in 17350. When I saw the second game with a ship not firing, I added it to my question without checking completely.
Actually, Mark. You raise a good question, both in Simplified and Basic rules: why do struck ships block fire?
In the original rules, VIII COMBAT PHASE, A./3 reads: "If the "closest ship" happens to be a land hex, friendly ship, surrendered or captured ship, or a hulk, the field of fire is blocked and the ship may not fire that broadside in that turn."
Interestingly, struck ships are not specifically mentioned, but I would classify that as "surrendered". Struck ships, however, can still be boarded (in the rules) even though they cannot be fired at. I currently have a live frigate adjacent to both an active friend, and a struck enemy, but my only option is to TBP to the friendly. |
