The latest scenario works for me, although the spanish seem to hold a very slight advantage the english do have the ability to roll the table if things work out correctly.
Baring Breakout from Havana, the Britania at Gibraltar seems to work well and has a fine counter balancing act between the 4 light ships of the english vs the 3 heavier frigates of the french.
So one of those will do fine in my book. The more ships the more chances for you or your opponent to surprise the other side/
