An additional advantage is ship count! In a scenario with multiple ships, you can also draw the battle AWAY from the ship that is slower. Perhaps upwind, or, perhaps just away. This means you gain a 1 ship advantage. So, the slowed or demasted ship may indeed still be powerful, but, if the battle is nowhere near it, you now have a serious advantage.
Do [bold}not[/bond] underestimate the value! There are numerous ways to use speed to your advantage.
So, my point here is not to say it's better to shoot at rigging, it's just to say you can shoot at rigging and gain an advantage under a variety of circumstances. |
