#5 dictates that if two or more ships are tied as closest then the firer gets to choose which is actually closest. Obviously the firer is not going to choose his friend so he'd pick an enemy and shoot. So a friend at the same range as an enemy should not prevent a shot. Does this make sense?
Gosh..it is awfully silent from Nick's side. Easter holidays and kids must have taken an unbearable toll..
(btw I am having the same problem ..but in my case it is an immediate win or lose situation ).
