Two items come to mind for me as "improvements" to youplay - 1) if we could have a "targeting" choice for our ships, it could be even a drop-down menu of choices to be made the turn you put in your moves, or it could be yet another phase to slow the game down with a "skip targeting phase" option.
I'm thinking of adding a way to specify target priorities, so that we don't need to add yet another phase. As an example, clicking on 1 or more enemy ships could make them "targets of preference" for the ships you are currently controlling: when multiple targets can be fired with the same HDT, your ships will fire on "targets of preference" first. Clicking a second time on those enemy ship could make them "absolute targets": when your ships can fire to multiple targets, they will always choose an "absolute target" over any other possible target, even if it means firing at a lower HDT. Clicking a third time on the enemy ship makes it a normal target again. This target choosing would be done in the normal movement phase.
2) I don't think ships that have zero crew should score points for either side, as in the original game there is no "surrender by manpower". However, an un-manned ship should be free game for ANY TBP or OBP from any adjacent ship, regardless of "ownership" or grapples or fouls. This because there is no one home on the target ship to resist the transfer or boarding. Derek
Agreed. However in the current game mechanics, if you kill all crew of the last enemy ship, the game instantly ends. What should we do then? Add a special algorithm to count that last ship as captured? or surrendered?
Empty ships are already free game but you have to send an OBP at the moment, so you need to grapple as well. Notice that if you read rules literally, as 0-crew ships are not surrendered they are not friendly and you can't conquer them by simple TBP, you have to grapple and OBP.
