There are some new restrictions on movement that have apparently been implemented under Advanced Rules, particularly for 1st SOL's and turning. Rather than figuring them out by trial an error, could someone point me to a reference?

Thanks in advance!

I don't have the rules on me at the moment, but it is in the rules (might even be in the Basic rules). Rule is something to this effect: "If a ship does not change it's bow hex during the previous movement phase, then the ship can not turn before moving forward at least 1 hex, unless the turn is the only move it makes (other than drift) in that movement phase."
It is also possible that the condition might involve losing 1 off of the ship's turning ability for the movement phase, but I am not entirely sure on that piece.
Anyhow, the same rule applies to all ships, regardless of class or size.

  • Well maybe there is a bug, because in game 23903 I have a 1st SOL under full sails with a movement of 5 that could not turn at all. I could go straight 5 hexes, but I could not go straight any number of hexes and turn.

That could be the "lose one off of turning ability". SOL 1s can only turn 1, so 1-1=0...
Re-read the movement rules for both Basic and Advanced to be sure. I can do that once I am home after Sunday.
