While I like the idea, the fact many veteran pilots personalized their planes makes this not particularly historically accurate.

Respectfully this is not so. vR used 4 different DrI of which only one was painted all red. One had a red upper wing and rear fuselage and one was in the factory standard streaked green. While a pilot was assigned a specific aircraft and could decorate it any way he wished, he occasionally found himself using a different a/c due to mechanical problems with his own. This was particularly true of the DrI as it had a problem with overheating during the summer months. It used a synthetic castor oil which wasn't all that good. |
