Yes i don't remember exactly the details but i remember in the original BM table game there was an optional altitude rule... something like the one you're describing

Hello everyone,
I used to play Blue Max 10ish years ago as a board game with stalls having a chance of crashing into the ground, and altitude affecting things too - am I right in thinking that's not implemented here ?

I seem to remember that there were 5 altitude levels
very high (vh) high (h) medium (m) low (l) and very low (vl)

And that 'old' planes had a ceiling of High, and only later planes could start at VH. And that if you dropped from your ceiling altitude you could never get back to your ceiling.

Though if you were at an altitude 2 lower than your ceiling you could still climb back up to 1 below your ceiling.

I seem to remember that you would lose 1 forward move from whatever move you picked if you climbed an altitude level. And that you would gain one forward move if you decended.

I think altitude seperation just added that difference to the range for shooting.

and that stalling had a 50% chance of putting you in a 'spin' which was generally bad as you would lose one altitude level each turn until you got the aircraft under control (one a 1 in 6 and came out facing a random direction) - or crashed into the ground (boom).

I think you could choose what altitude (up to your plane's ceiling) you started at.

Anyone else seen those rules? and remember anything else - was there a modifier for shooting over altitude ranges?

Has this been considered and discarded for this site ? or has it just not been looked at ?

Edward
