No significant difference for me, either at home with a 6 Mps download speed or at work with a 20 Mps speed. Speed is rarely the issue for me in the main Blue Max page since I won't get redirect there until all my pending games are done and only if my last game is a Blue Max game.
Unlike ksnake, I play 3 game types on this site: Blue Max, Gonzaga, and WSIM. Then the page will get its automatic refresh every 5 minutes. Don't tell me you constantly pressing F5 when you are on the Blue Max main page.
Nick, leave it the way have now unless you have a lot of people complaining. Please go fix the WSIM bugs if you have the time.

Yes I have a slow upload speed on my broadband, not quite as bad as ksnake.
The background loads instantly but I sometimes wait up to a minute for the plane graphics to load.
I knew this wasn't my machines or internet access speed and so recognised it as a server issue. However as I started out with computers before PCs were invented I have sufficient patience to wait.
I would suggest caution though before you leap in with ever more upgrades - is your server good enough if people are already experiencing upload speed problems now? I think dcr66 may be right - get everything else working as it should before "improving" the site graphics. There is no competition between this site and any other so how it looks doesn't matter, it is game playability that is the most important.
As far as WSIM goes - I stopped playing owing to the bugs I encountered in my first few games - getting that right has to be a priority.
