I find bickering over a game less than honorable, but I guess honor is quite subjective.

It is a game, they are playing within the rules. The problem is more in the scoring than in the tactics. If the escaping pilot is given a -1 (counting captures as a kill), that would be a great change. Giving the opposing pilot(s) a +1 for an unearned kill would be inappropriate and accepting an unearned kill would seem quite dishonorable.
