As far as I know, "professor" ksnake always mentor new players. He even mentored me in my early days. However he will be the seeking you out usually after you have been active for some time.

The reason I (and I suspect some other veterans as well) refuse challenge from newer players are as follows:

I prefer fast games since I have tons of games already. At least 1 move a day but I prefer a few moves if possible.

New players on some occasion show lack of sportmanship. Fly around at high speed after having a 1 point lead.

New players on some occasion has poor etiquette like retiring when only 1 gun is destroyed.

New players on some occasion will be very active for a few days and disappear completely afterwards. That is why some of us do not join leagues early. We want to avoid potential automovers.

It occured to me before in multi-player games with new players that the new players just retire with minimal damages leaving the rest of his wingmen behind.
