Message text | Because of the high kill counts of the known names it is easy to forget the value of the Ace. Five kills without being killed was a difficult accomplishment. Surviving a war that you joined early on was an even greater accomplishment. With the regular changes in plane quality throughout a war you could go from having a skill and equipment advantage to just the skill advantage. Or, for those pilots who were dependent on the equipment advantage, they were in real trouble when enemy technology caught up. |
