I was wondering if anyone knows if the program is set to make all 0 range engine hits into tail hits or does that rule not apply at range 0 for some odd reason?

• Same-hex Combat: An aircraft may fire at a target aircraft in the same hex if
1. both aircraft are facing in the same direction and
2. the fuel/speed number of the maneuver which the attacker performed in the movement step is lower than the fuel/speed number of the target’s maneuver.
But nothing talking about all damage goes to tail. Though personally I am agree on your point
