I don't know very much about the whole paypal procedure, as I'm in Italy and could make a bank transfer...
Anyway, are you sure that the valid email address paypal asks for is not YOUR one?
I mean, they just ask for a valid email address for the money sender, so that they can send you all the details about the transfer...
Not sure, though, just an idea...
