| | Message text A number of years ago, a campaign event was run covering the whole war. Considering do so ago, I delved through the archives and a number of Blue Max sites for ideas and after reviewing those have composed the following as a fairly simple campaign rule set which will hopefully be able to be run with minimal oversight.
Feedback is welcome.

Sign-up Anybody can participate, simply by joining one of the official games at any time.
Game-Creation Official campaign games can be created by anyone but they must satisfy these requirements: 1. Planes in the scenario must fit the plane availability according to the Time rules (see Time section below) 2. These must be at least 4 player scenarios – we want to promote group play, not a bunch of solo matches. 3. They must be played with Advanced Rules with Pilot Killed and Fuel Tank Explosion. 4. The game short description should be: "20XX Campaign" 5. Fuel available must be the default quantity 6. The game must not be a League game. 7. Copy and paste the game number into a posting in the Campaign 20xx thread.
Passworded Games You can make these passworded games otherwise you may have non-campaigners joining them. People just cannot read!! You can use the same password for all games if you want or make them more week specific, just keep them fairly simple since not everyone have English as their first language.
The use of a generic password is not to exclude any players (rookies or otherwise) who want to play in the campaign. It is simple mechanism to make it clear to players that this is a campaign game. They can act as a filter to stop players who have not yet made a decision to join the campaign from filling games set-up for campaign play. The generic password should be something straight forward like 'campaign' - it does not require any policing at all.
Another relative simple solution. 1. You create the games but don't post the passwords yet. 2. Select the games on the screen and copy them to a file. That way you will have the game numbers. 3. Release the password so the participants can join.
I cannot enforce creating passworded games as a rule, since once a game begins it doesn't say if it had a password or not. However, I do not see a big problem in random people joining the campaign "by mistake" since they don't need any special requisite or to fly in a special way to play. However if you prefer to use a password and play only with other people who are playing in the campaign, that's fine.
Squadrons In the past, some players have enjoyed flying regularly with a select group, and there are still a few semi-active squadrons around. Squadrons are welcome to set up matches vs other squadrons, or an open challenge to whomever wishes to fly against them. These matches should be passworded and it is strongly recommended players take care to extra care to sign up for the correct side or the matches will have to be abandoned and reposted. Such matches must otherwise follow the rules outlined above.
Time The campaign will last 23 weeks: every week will be one month of game time, starting from January 1917 up to November 1918. As shown in the Aircraft Availability Chart (see http://www.youplay.it/play/bm_PlanesChart.asp ), as the time passes there will be more planes available to create official games. At the midnight ending the 23rd week, armistice will come into effect and all ended games after that date will not be counted. The side with most points will win the war.
Pilots When a player completes its first official game, a new pilot is created in the database for him and the results (kills and points) of that game will be credited to that pilot. Any subsequent results from other ended games of that player will be credited to that pilot, until the pilot is found to be killed while processing results of a game. If a pilot gets killed, the player will receive a new pilot when the results of the next ended game will be processed. Players who fight both for Allies and German will have different pilots for each side. Pilots will be created with a default anonymous name (like "Pilot #532") but players will be able to give them a personalized name by asking for it here in the forum.
Pilot Killed A pilot is considered killed when: 1. His plane explodes or 2. He gets the "Pilot Killed" chit or 3. He gets shotdown (or crashes down by fire) and the sum of (engine+wings+fuselage+tail) is even. This last case should result in shotdowns killing the pilot only 50% of the time.
Medals Pilots will be awarded medals based on points scored in a game as follows: Gold 160 pts Silver 120 pts Bronze 80 pts Statistics There will be a page summing up the war progresses, both on the global scale (total points made by Allies vs German) and on pilot level (number of missions completed, kills, etc). These will be updated about once a week.
Campaign start The campaign will start XXX at 12:01 AM GMT. |
