And here is the exact same damage discrepancy again. Moonglum01 is flying a Halb, his observer hit my Camel head on. I drew a "tail damage 2" blue chit and damage was assign to my tail, instead of my engine.

when an observer fires his shots are always calculated with deflection unless the two planes are aligned, this means that although you may have been facing directly at him his shot will count as defected ( check the shot calculation in the battle log) as he has a flexigun so only if you are directly behind the plane and in the same facing does he not have this penalty. this means that as he is shooting at a deflected target all areas of the plane are open to damage.
