When we developed it we needed to set up a simple and quick game, not too much "chessy", not too much "lucky". We considered some cards too, but we thought them will add nothing but a greater imponderability.
For example, We studied a small set of cards each player to use once then discard during a game. The card must be played on a specific vampire of yours:
1 - The Dark Mirror (vampire reverses damage)
2 - The Stone Sacellum (vampire doesn't move)
3 - The Black Ring (vampire doesn't metamorphose)
4 - The House's Horn (vampire goes Home)
5 - The Silver Dagger (vampire hits double)
and so...
