| Message text I do agree with what Chiggy is saying, that the current scoring system is flawed and does have a potential for abuse.
There is little means to address the situation within the context of the game rules posted on the site, but I think it is quite possible that a game master adjudicating a league game can make allowances as he sees fit. Perhaps simply requiring that all league games be fought to a decision and not permitting withdrawl would help, I don't really know. As it stands now, results can be skewed by manipulation of the rules.
One such example occurs to me as I watched Tornade play against Andreas. In the last battle, Andreas took the victory because of a margin in points and the game timer kicked in to end the game. The reality of the situation, the two British ships were in virtualy sinking condition while Tornade's single ship was in relatively good condition. Neither British ship would have been able to maintain speed due to the significant hull damage and both would have eventually been overtaken and destroyed. Had withdrawl NOT been an option, the game would have ended quite differently.
In any case, I didn't really pay a lot of attention to the game victory conditions and never considered whether or not my surrendering to Sfatula would skew the results. If it in fact does, then by all means credit Sfatula with full points for my two fleets. |
