To save time, what, if any, are the changes? My casual perusal did not notice any, except for a cleaner presentation. Nice job.

Billy Boy, are you indeed a Hippie, Hippie ?

I was born too late to be a hippy. Not that I didn't try.

It's mostly the same stuff with everything from the board game rules that's not in the online version removed (boarding parties, wind change, etc.) I cleaned up the language so it doesn't read like board game rules since the online version handles a lot automatically (firing, damage, movement allowance, etc.), so it wasn't necessary.

Experienced players won't find much that's really new. I tried to clarify common and confusing items using what I know of the game and a lot of help from Nick and Alex. My real goal was to make it easier for newbies, and to more accurately reflect the online game, not just be a WS&IM rules reference.

Nick and Alex: I already found one part that's wrong. Under "Crew Hits" it says a ship will surrender if all the crew is lost.

Thanks again to them for all the help and the chance to give something back to my favorite site. I hope it's useful.

Bill

Billy, there are many changes that are not in the original rules. Most I approve of for the Basic Game!

I don't care for the drifting, which is too complex for a simple game.

One thing which is somewhat puzzling is struck ships being invisible to firing ships. These are still physical obstacles, with people, who should not be subjected to heavy balls whistling over there heads. Alex and Nick check these posts, but I see no great need for changing the current setup. They are working on more advanced rules, such as boarding, and they are fully aware of my recommendations to them.

The rules are as they are. We learn to utilize the rules to obtain a victory. Bugs are different than game operations, and are addressed promptly by Alex and his team. These are great guys, and I have the utmost admiration for this production.

I use a lot of these rules in my miniatures games; most, in fact (any one using the advanced broadside fields must have nothing better to do). I care not for the historicity of this ship or that, although there are some strange ships as presented (Romulus). I simply question some of the single ship statstics, as I go by the stats as presented in the original rules..

If I'm rambling, just blame the drugs!

Johnny B.
