In Game 12430 I have had both my ships targetting Hull for almost the entire game but virtually every shot I have made has gone to rigging. My opponent seems tohave no trouble targetting hull. This has changed what should have been a very strong position into a fairly difficult position.

I don't see on the website where this is not implimented and it seemed to work in other games. Anybody know what is the issue?

"5. The player firing now decides if the fire is to be aimed at the hull, or at the rigging. If the range is six hexes or more, the fire must be aimed at the rigging."

I looked at your game and I have to wonder if maybe your range was 7 or higher. And if you were raked at long range the higher rigging tables will produce hull damage.

So what ranges were you at?

Well thats hard to say now - I missed the six hex rule and didn't pay attention to range at the time. It is quite possible that was my problem.

One thing that may be confusing me is that looking over some previous rounds still visible (56 and prior) it shows my enemy targetting my hull while I am targetting his rigging (when I know I had selected hull - though the range is 7+). The difference is that I have enough guns to get a Htd of 0 while he has a -1.

I am guessing this means the targeting algorithm checks for range and changes the targetting AFTER ensuring the Htd is 0 or greater so an "Unable to fire" shows the true targetting choice while an "able to fire" shows the changed choice, thus confusing me.

I'd suggest they change this if possible. If my opponent was unable to fire there should be no reason for me to know what he was targetting and that information should not be given. All it would require is not printing the target in an "unable to fire" circumstance.

Actually there is a real bug! Check this out:

Orion firing as san trin is at 6 hex range at the front of the ship but 7 hex range at the rear so it fired at rigging. Of course one could say this is not a bug but it would be why sometimes ships fire at rigging at what appears to be range six.
