its quite true that the ships here can turn on the proverbial dime...
that said...dismasted ships are not in real danger of sinking and there are MANY cases of ships that have been badly shot up aloft and still continued to fight and even win the battle
anchors would be dropped when possible to prevent drifting...or a jury rig to at least enable the ship to maintain steerage way...boats would be dropped and crews set to warping the vessel to maintain position
in short...if you are sailing a second rate and happen to come under the guns of an enemy three decker...dismasted or not...you had better get ready for some serious pounding |
