I think I may be the saddest

I think Starboard comes from the common term steerboard or steering oar side which was commonly on the right side of a vessel. larboard means basically the other side (lar = ancient greek!?). larboard was replaced by port as it was causing confusion due to sounding the samer in stressfull situations and port was used as a relacement as it was the left side that vessels went alongside so as not to damage the steering oar
