My understanding is when a player surrenders, they score 0. Check out this game - it says Derekticus, who surrendered, did not score 0. Is that correct?
Please don't mess with my stats, man. I already got Jacked when the "losers-get-wins-and-winners-get-losses" bug hit.

But seriously, it does seem like a bug, and when they re-set the stats, it would be nice to have folks who surrender take an additional penalty in the "average points per game" stats. It might encourage them to play it out to the bitter end unless they were being skunked anyhow.
I'm not so sure it's right for them to lose their points. They earned them. Their teammates not only have lost their help, but have lost the team points through no fault of their own.
A better solution is for their surrendered ships to still be eligible to be attacked, so their opponent doesn't lose the opportunity for the points.
Mark: Surrendered ships can still be captured, using the Basic Rules with boarding. See VII., B., 8, as well as IX., D., 3. Struck and surrendered ships can still be boarded using either TBPs or OBP. It is not stated if adjacency is required, or if fouling or grappling is necessary for implementation, but it's just another wrinkle in the new complexities of the Basic system. Try it sometimes when you're playing them.
Surrendering in any manner is reprehensible, and could be discouraged more readily with drifting, and full-sails. There should be a penalty for an action as per this game. The former has already been implemented as part of the Basic Rules update; full-sails is on the burner until the middle of next year.
There should be no concerns regarding "Stats" at this time anyway, as when WSIM is removed from Beta all stats reset anyway. That could occur at any time, once the league format is established.
All of this information can be found if you go to the original youplay.it home page, and then read the boarding rules as posted by "Longneck" Bill, at:
http://www.youplay.it/beta/play/ws_gamerulesbasic.aspEven so, he made one slight mistake---the captured ship now has the quality of the prize crew, unless recaptured. I noticed this in a current game, when Green Sagittaire just captured an average British SOL, and somehow the crews became exchanged. My frigate is now Average, and the SOL is now Green. I expect to recapture the frigate, when both should revert back to a Green status.
ADDENDUM: Bill does mention the boarding/crew quality issue twice. The first reference is incorrect, but in addressing the issue during the Melee phase, it's spot on. Sorry for my initial confused statement.
