Having programmed computers for almost 30 years, I can spot a really bad random number generator when I see one. So, this ends now. Make all the fun you want, I stand by my statement. Search the forum and you too can see. I'm not the only one out there who knows the truth.
Ok, serious answer:
Impailer, as the skymasters have stated many times, the site engine uses the standard rnd() function of the .asp language. Moreover Nick has been sampling dice rolls over 24 h without spotting any significative deviation from a uniform distribution.
Said that, I know a bit about statistic and I know a bit about numerical computation, and I know perfectly that there are good number generators and bad number generators. Where bad and good refers primarly to their correlation properties. This means that you should use a little care when chosing one for the simulation of complex random processes, like for instance a Langevin Equation with multiplicative noise. But all standard random number generators, if used correctly, are perfectly able to deliver a pseudo-random sequence between 1 and 6. The good ones as the bad ones.
This forum is not about other people deeming what is right for the board and what isn't. Your comment borders on a personal attack, which is inappropriate for this forum and I will not stoop to that level. My comment was concerning the game. Yours was not.
My comment was about how silly and non-costructive is to state that the random number generator is flawed without bringing in any real proof. And obviously a former forum duscussion and a bad luck sequence of 1's and 2's are not proofs. Do you still think there is a real problem in the random number generator? Do a service to the BM community, show us a real proof and we all be grateful to you. But if you prefer void statements like "it has been shown that...", then do not complain if you get mocking answers.
More in general I found quite unpolite the harsh comments about real and immaginary bugs which sometimes pop up on this forum. People should remember that all this site is run for free, with no ads and no inscription fees. |
