It was MS-SQL. As I said, it's a 32bit vs 64bit connection issue. I'm well past the easy things like putting IIS in compatibility mode.

Are you using SQL 2016 or you can just install an older version of MS-SQL on the server or another VM running an older version of Windows?
But given your experience you probably have made similar guesses already.
I could do all that, but the idea was to start with everything completely new. Again, I can just run the system as it was delivered to me. That works. I thought I'd try a fresh install with modern OS, DB, and IIS.
As long as Dusty doesn't get impatient, there is no rush.
